La pose de ponts dentaires

Our Chambly dentists use dental bridges to replace missing teeth. Here's how the procedure works.

What is a dental bridge ?

A dental bridge bridges the space between two healthy teeth (or two dental implants) and helps restore both the function and appearance of the smile.

But maybe you are wondering how this procedure works. Our Chambly dentists explain the procedure to you in this article.

Evaluation

During this first step, your dentist will talk to you about the possible options to replace your missing teeth. In addition to a dental bridge, dentures and dental implants can be considered.

Your dentist will make a recommendation based on your needs and your budget. If you opt for a dental bridge, here are the steps of the treatment:

Preparation and installation of the temporary bridge

Dental bridges are attached to healthy teeth on each side of the space to be filled. The dentist must first shape the abutment teeth so that they are correctly positioned for the placement of the bridge. Local anesthesia will be administered to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure.

Once this step is completed, an impression of the surrounding teeth will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory, along with a sample of your tooth color. Technicians will build the bridge based on the impressions. The color, size and shape of your new denture teeth will closely match the color, size and shape of your natural teeth.

While designing your permanent bridge, you will likely have a temporary bridge.

Permanent placement of the dental bridge

During the procedure, local anesthesia will be administered.

The temporary bridge will be removed by the dentist, who will then clean the teeth surrounding the space to be filled. The dental bridge will be attached to the abutment teeth.

Finally, the dentist will show you what the bridge looks like in your mouth and ask you to practice biting it several times before completing the procedure. At first, you should expect it to feel a bit strange, but that will pass quickly.

Aftercare

Once your bridge is attached, you can care for it the same way you would care for your natural teeth. Your dental bridge will likely last for many years if you maintain it properly. To do this, brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily and visit the dentist regularly for cleanings and checkups.
